This week we join all Australians in celebrating NAIDOC Week.

We acknowledge the traditional owners of the lands on which we work, the Wangal People of the Eora Nation, and pay respects to their elders past present and emerging.

The last few years in retail have been filled with more trials than triumphs, but we learnt so much. The number one lesson is that the sense of community and engagement we foster in our neighbourhood centres is crucial in creating thriving retail and lifestyle precincts that enhance the local area.

At Structure Retail, our focus is on celebrating our communities, and the occasions that matter most to them.

Which is why our Lunar New Year celebrations are so robust. Over 50% of our customers at Rhodes Central have Asian heritage, so Lunar New Year is one of our most important annual promotions.

Structure Retail Management proved once again that sometimes it is the simple ideas that bring the most joy to customers.

Carols Concerts are nothing new, but they continue to bring people together in a celebration of both Christmas and Community.

The trials of the past few years highlighted the crucial role Structure has to play in each of our centres. Beyond maintenance, retailer relationships and creating a safe environment, we are responsible for building and maintaining communities. People need to come together more than ever, and building an engaged, excited and loyal community around a shopping centre sets everything up for long-term success.

Back in June 2021, we were excitedly preparing to open Rhodes Central when Sydney entered another lockdown. Despite the disruption and uncertainty of another indefinite period of closures and restrictions, we knew it was vital to go ahead with our plans, to support our tenants to complete their fit out, to ensure that our eligible retailers could open and provide the community with safe and convenient access to essential retail and health services.

When Sydney entered another lockdown in June 2021, we were halfway through preparing for Rhodes Central’s opening. There were limited retail options in Rhodes, and we knew we only had one choice; to forge ahead and ensure the community could safely and conveniently access the essential retail and health services the centre would provide.
